Apex will point the way ahead

Reading Chronicle Business Paper

January 2007

Apex Plaza is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and will continue to hold its own against new developments, according to the man who knows it best.

Keith Wise, partner at Campbell Gordon and the company responsible for filling the landmark office space, insists the building has nothing to worry about from planned state-of-the-art office developments at Chatham Place and Station Hill.

Wise said: "Because of its design and location Apex will continue to hold its own.

"It's a very important building to Reading and it's one of the most successful buildings in the town."

The Plaza based next to Reading railway station, is essentially four buildings connected by a central atrium.

Construction on the 200,000 sq.ft landmark began in 1986 and took 28 months, requiring 3,500 truck loads of cement.

Lighting in the building would stretch for four miles if laid end to end, and every year the building creates 100 tonnes of rubbish, of which 40 are recycled.

The Plaza currently plays host to Barclays, European law firm Osbourne Clarke, solictors Shoosmsiths, lawyers Olswang and accountants Ernst & Young, and it success has this month led to Business Post declaring it to be the town's Park Lane compared to Forbury Square's Mayfair, in our unofficial Reading Monopoly board.
